Knaresborough for Growing Families: Finding the Ideal Home and Schools

A market and spa town in North Yorkshire, Knaresborough is a highly desirable place to live. The iconic viaduct stretches across the Nidd Gorge, and offers an amazing view of this idyllic and charming town. As a Yorkshire based home builder, we recognise the places people want to live, and that’s why we currently have a range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes available at our brand new Castle Locke development in Knaresborough. But whilst a sought after location is high on the list of priorities when it comes to finding a new home, we also know that the quality of schools in the local area features high on that list too, especially for families or for those who know children will be a part of their future further down the line.

So let’s take a look at some of the best primary and secondary schools in the local area, all within just a short distance from our latest development.

St Mary’s Primary School

Less than a 5 minute journey away by car, St Mary’s Primary school was rated “good” in every category and “good” overall by Ofsted following a full inspection in 2019. An inclusive school, St Mary’s welcomes children from all faiths and backgrounds, as well as those who do not follow any particular faith. They offer a creative and inspirational curriculum, whilst promoting values such as unity and respect. And importantly, they recognise that each and every child is different, whilst having high aspirations for all of the children in their care.

Knaresborough St John’s Church of England Primary School

Close to our development, just 5 minutes by car, you’ll find Knaresborough St John’s Church of England Primary School. They offer a broad and balanced curriculum, with high expectations for all children. They encourage children to achieve their full potential through fostering a love of learning and underpinned by a Christian ethos. Rated “good" by Ofsted in 2016, the school converted to an academy in 2019, however it remains under the same leadership.

Meadowside Academy

Having achieved an “outstanding” rating in all areas when it was formerly known as Meadowside Community Primary School, the school converted to an academy in 2017. The school is just a short drive (3 minutes) from our Castle Locke development, and aims to ensure that all children feel safe, supported and happy in their environment. A culture of high expectations is promoted, with children offered support and challenges in order to allow them to achieve their full potential through a fun and engaging curriculum.

King James’ School

And for families who are looking to move with children close to leaving their primary education, or who are already on their journey through secondary education, then King James’ School is just a 10 minute drive from our Castle Locke development. The school is dedicated to helping children develop into confident, sensitive and responsible adults, who are able to play an active role within society. And academically, the school achieves results above the national average, whilst also offering a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. The school was judged to be “good” by Ofsted following a full inspection in January 2023.

With many good schools just a short distance from our Castle Locke development on Boroughbridge Road, Knaresborough is the perfect place for those looking to make the move with children. And let’s not forget it’s a picturesque place to call home, with all the amenities you could possibly need closeby, as well as great transport links to nearby towns and cities.
