Fancy an evening at the theatre? You can enjoy a unique theatre experience at East Riding Theatre. This beautiful theatre is housed inside a converted Baptist chapel. The chapel was originally built in 1909 and performed services, weddings, Sunday school and more. It was taken over by the council in the 60s, and served as the local archives between 1996 and 2007. It is only as recent as 2014 that the building saw its latest reincarnation as the East Riding Theatre. Make sure you catch one of their performances in this truly one-of-a-kind setting.

Food and Drink

Beverley is blessed with an abundance of inviting eateries, catering for all tastes and budgets. From homely pub grub to fine dining and everything in between, you’ll find it here in Beverley.

Enjoy a tempting selection of handcrafted gelato at Poma, fine dining dishes at Whites and The Westwood, fabulous modern Asian cuisine at Roku Asia, and traditional teatime treats at Kavanagh Tea Room.

If you love a traditional cosy pub then you’ll be delighted with Beverley’s offering! You’ll find around 29 of them on the town’s historic streets and some date to before 1700. The Sun Inn, The White Horse (also known as Nellies) and The Lord Nelson are some of the oldest.

Arts and Culture

The town’s medieval trail reinforces its many creative talents, including bakers, musicians and even puppet makers. As you explore, look up to spot the paintings of artist Fred Elwell. Don't miss Beverley Minster, arguably one of Europe’s best gothic buildings before heading across to the opposite end of town where you’ll find the even older St Mary’s Church. If you look closely, you’ll see the white rabbit that inspired the character in Alice in Wonderland.

Not to be missed is Beverley North Bar! A 15th-century gate that is located close to St Mary’s Church. The structure sits across the A164 at the junction of North Bar Within and North Bar Without. This historic site was built in 1409 and cost £98 to build at the time. North Bar is a picturesque spot and there is an interesting plaque on the floor nearby which includes a full breakdown of all of the building expenses.
