Top 5 Interior Design Trends 2022

‘2022 trends have entered the chat.’ The new year is finally upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited about it.

We have comprised a list of the top 5 interior trends we think will surface this year! From colour accents to curvaceous materials, we’ve got the key to it all.

Materials Matter

In the spirt of “new year, new me” in at number one has to be Sustainability, with the use of natural materials, and the rise of ‘biophilia’. The younger generation has started to incorporate sustainable and organic materials into their home décor. With the growing publicity surrounding climate change and mass-produced products, more and more people are being introduced to this change in design. Customers are beginning to seek out different ways to add this change to their home. Gone are the days of meaningless purchases. Reclaimed/recycled goods are here to stay. Biophilia has also been seen to make an appearance through our design choices. In recent years we have seen people trying to achieve a more 'natural' theme in their home, with a large increase in the popularity of house plant décor.

Curves the word

Coming in at a strong second is organic/curved shapes. Just like our beauty standards, curves are always on trend. Funky and chunky designs are back by popular demand, and we have seen people incorporating this into their candles, ornaments, and even bed frames. An increasing number of brands are beginning to conform to this comforting style choice. A lot of this inspiration comes from luxury Italian designers and their interior creations, specifically their sofas and chairs. We are expected to not only see it in furniture designs, but also architectural home structures. Arches built in places like our doorways and stairs, is said to be a more fluid way to make a space that bit more inviting.

Black is back

When it comes to smaller home details, we can expect black accents to be a big one. We have already seen a glimpse of people introducing this colour into their homes, but how it is predicted to grow even bigger. The changes we have already noticed include black wall panelling, black ornaments, black light fixtures and the list goes on. However, designers are now claiming we should expect to see a rise in black window frames, doors, cabinets, and even taps. We are now seeing the advantage to decorating our homes with neutral soft tones as a base. Some may see it as too much of a gloomy colour to include in their home, but the strong contrast with softer colours can make a room look more dramatic and elegant.

To texture or not to texture

Comfort is always key! Which is why cosy fabrics are on the horizon for 2022. After spending so much time at home over the past 2 years, everyone’s attention to detail towards the quality of their fabrics has increased. According to the experts we should expect to see velvets, sherpas, and boucles as the main fabrics being used this year. Some new business’ have already formed from just using these fabrics alone. Even people's walls are being introduced to a change in texture, with people exploring lime-washing and even paint products that mimic plaster finishes. Including different textures in your décor is said to give your room more personality and depth. This is your sign to start looking for different fabrics and watch how it can transform a room!
