We caught up with Steve, our sales consultant at St Davids, Otley. Based at St Davids show home, Steve's main role is to help customers through their home buying journey; choosing their home, advising them on how best to buy and making the process as smooth as possible for buyers. We put Steve under the spotlight and asked him some questions!
WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY AT WORK LOOK LIKE?
My day always starts by opening and checking the show home. It's important that everything is in place and looks the best it possibly can. Everything from inside the show home, the marketing suite and everything externally needs to be presentable for the day ahead!
If there are any booked viewings or appointments, I make sure I'm prepared and organised for their arrival. Ensuring everything is prepared for ‘walk in’ visitors is important too, someone could walk in with their dream home in mind and it's important I'm as prepared as I can be so their house buying journey gets off to the best start.
If there are any enquiries online, it's my job to make sure they're answered and each potential customer has all the information they need.
In my role, I also monitor the sales progress of those reserved and ensuring that everything is moving at the pace it should.
We're getting to the exciting stage of some homes are almost ready to move into here at St Davids, which means I can take buyers to their brand new homes, show them around and move onto the next step of their home buying process. It's really exciting showing buyers around their new home, it really brings it to life for the customer.
I also liaise with with site staff and colleagues at the Space Homes Head Office. The team at Space Homes work really closely together, so although I'm not based in the same building as the rest of the team, we still communicate as much as we can.
WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I get a real buzz out of selling new homes. In particular, I love guiding and helping first time buyers with their exciting purchase. I remember buying my first home and how exciting it was, so helping first time buyers always takes me back to that exciting time!
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN YORKSHIRE?
Upper Swaledale coming through Buttertubs and taking the Thwaite/Keld (waterfalls everywhere) road to Tan Hill and beyond.
IF YOU WERE A CITY, WHAT WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?
Athens – nearly as old and with as much history as me!
IF YOU COULD PICK UP A NEW SKILL IN AN INSTANT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A pilot with my own plane and go anywhere I wish.
WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?
Courtesy costs nothing. Always do more than paid to do. Stick to your morals and ethics whatever the pressure.
