How To Make Your Home Office Space Fun Yet Professional

Modern home office spaces are quickly moving away from rigid, dull, grey rooms and bland decor. Contemporary office space trends that deliver a sense of playful openness are being championed by high-performing, forward-thinking companies, and your home office is a great space to borrow some of these ideas into your own office set up.

We all know being in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere plays a huge role on our overall mood and productivity, but did you know that a well-designed fun office space can also make an impact on the success of your business? The most productive offices balance the comforts of home with a professional business image.

Here’s some of our handy hints to create a stylish setting full of colour, life and inspiration that provides a happy, healthy, fun home office space for you to thrive in.

Personalise the space

A home office space that is devoid of personality can come across as stark and boring. Overcome this by adding personal items to your workspace. This might be family photos or childhood mementos to develop a more casual, comfortable atmosphere.

Be clever with colour

Colour can truly transform a drab office into a playful yet professional haven. So, don’t be afraid to incorporate a splash of colour into your office design, whether you use a bold feature wall, more subtle décor accents or hang large works of art on the wall. And if you’re not sure what colour to go with, use your business brand colours as a guide. A word of warning before you paint every surface in sight: don’t overdo it. To avoid going over the top, maybe keep your larger walls and furniture neutral.

Bring the outdoors indoors

Nothing brings an outdated office into modernity quite like the humble indoor plant. Plants are a great addition to any office space. Fresh flowers in particular can add a pop of colour, offer a visually meditative experience, and improve the air quality. The extra oxygen which plants bring into the space will also boost focus and concentration, and above everything else, they look pretty good too!

Beyond plants, you can celebrate nature in your home office by incorporating natural materials where possible. Light-toned woods are versatile and add a touch of Scandinavian chic to any space. You could also add artwork of nature on the walls too, such as pictures of beaches, fields, large open vistas, anything which fits in with the theme of your office and workplace but has a natural feel to it.

Embrace Natural light

As humans, we are intrinsically designed to seek out natural light, and artificial light can be quite mood-lowering over a long period of time. Ensure that you have as much natural light as your room will allow, making sure that windows are large, unblocked, and open as much as possible. Natural light is also easy on the eyes, a feature that shouldn’t be overlooked in a time when we spend the majority of our waking lives looking at a screen.
